How to teach a child to blow his nose?

In the world, probably, there are no such parents who would not have touched the problem of the stuffy nose of their baby. The question of how to help a child blow his nose, if he is not yet three years old, and today does not lose its relevance. However, fortunately, there are wonderful ways to solve this problem. And you can do it without violence and in an interesting form for the baby.

How to teach your baby to blow his nose?

The first thing to take care of is the right time for training. First, your baby should be absolutely healthy. Secondly, nothing should hinder his breathing. The ideal time to start learning is from one and a half years. At this time, the kids in the game form learn all the basic life skills. But if your child is a little older and does not want to blow his nose, this does not mean that he lags behind in development. He just needs to communicate this ability in an accessible and interesting form, so that he correctly treats his breathing and does not pull the snot inside.

To teach a baby to blow his nose, it is important to pick up a moment when he is in good spirits and can concentrate on a new lesson. Once all the conditions for learning are created, you can start an exciting game. All of the listed options you can use either individually or in stages one by one:

  1. To begin with, offer the child a game in which you have to blow your mouth. Perfect training will be working with candles or soap bubbles. Show by your own example how to blow off the candle. Do not rush the child and do not forget to praise him for success.
  2. Having fixed the skills of work with exhalation through the mouth, show the baby how the air goes through the nose. To do this, you can use a handkerchief that will sway from your breathing, or in the event that it's cool in the street, you can show the child how the window glass fogs up.
  3. The next stage you can offer the child to play a hedgehog. Show on the picture how this animal looks, and depict how he puffs. Suggest the kid to repeat for you and pretend to be a hedgehog.
  4. Another good option how to teach a child to blow his nose is playing in a train. The essence of it is that you need to alternately close one nostril and buzz like a locomotive.
  5. Arrange competitions. To do this, you can put on candy wrappers from sweets or light papers and offer the child to compete, who will blow them off with their noses. Do not forget to show the baby how to exhale by example.
  6. In order not to face the problem after the training, when the child does not blow anyway, try to show him right away how to properly clean his nose: slightly opening his mouth, holding a handkerchief from his nose and clamping each nostril alternately. Remember that from exhalation with both nostrils there will be no effect. Use the handkerchief for clarity and let the child copy your actions. Regardless of age, he will be able to adopt this habit and save you from problems in the future.

If your actions do not immediately bring an effect, do not get discouraged. Your baby needs time, to understand what you are asking of him. Gradually, after seeing that it's easier to breathe after sniffing, your child will take a handkerchief in hand and prove that your actions were not in vain.

Another argument in favor of when a baby blows his own self is situations in which foreign objects enter your nose. Being able to blow out air, your kid can do without medical intervention. If, with a cold, any attempt at blowing causes the child to have pain or begins to cry and get nervous, it is better to consult a doctor.
