Is it possible to give a cross to a loved one?

There are many people's signs, according to one of which you can not donate crosses, especially if it is a question of a loved one, but few can explain why. This is due to pure water superstition, but many believe it.

A cross as a gift is a sign

People say that it is possible to give a cross only in the church when baptism takes place, and this role is placed on the godfather or godmother. If this object is donated simply, the person receiving the gift can take on the destiny of the donor, and with it all the worries and misfortunes. Some do not even think whether the crosses are donated simply because they sincerely believe that such a gift can bring terrible illnesses and even death.

However, modern people do not differ superfluously, and now such a gift, especially made of precious metals, is very popular. On the question whether it is possible to give a cross to a loved one, only the one who knows his chosen one will be able to give an answer. If he and she are not superstitious, then why not? The same applies to men. He may well give his beloved beautiful cross of silver or gold.

The attitude of the church to the notion of not giving a cross

The Orthodox Church is not against such a gift. She considers the cross to be one of the only cult objects that can be made and that are allowed to trade. Proceeding from this, the church rules are allowed to give a cross to close people and do not see anything wrong with it. Present such a gift, having a clear conscience, then you can not be afraid that the sins of the giver will damage the recipient. Of course, most often the crosses are bought and presented as a gift during the ritual baptism. However, it is quite possible to give it to the name-day. It will be most pleasant to receive as a gift a cross, pre-consecrated in some monastery or cathedral.

The church does not consider the cross to be the object of decoration. Based on Orthodox rules, he should be one for life, received at baptism from the godfather or godmother. He is very symbolic, because, according to the Gospel, it means that a person will follow Jesus with his own cross. It is best to wear a cross not above, but under clothes, it is not advisable to put it on public display. It happens that the very first cross is lost, and then the church allows to replace it with a new one, which can be accepted as a gift.
