Knitting Technique "Freeform"

The technique of crocheting in free form was called "Freeform" (from English freeform). It is considered quite young, but has long acquired a lot of fans. Its peculiarity is that knitting is irregular, that is, you can knit without rules, certain regularities. This is absolute creative freedom! Prudence Mapstone became the founder of this knitting technique. Her works are original, they are unique.

The main rule of this technique is the absence of any rules. You can choose any color combinations, knit any patterns, use hooks or knitting needles. But there is one nuance - the product should be collected from scramblers, that is, separately connected elements. In this case, each of them can be either integral (bound irresistibly) or collected from smaller fragments. By itself, scramblers are a decorative element that you can decorate a bag, sweater or wall panel .

Use in work can be varied in density and texture yarn. The main task of the master is to successfully compose it, considering the texture and color. As additional elements, beads, leather, fur, beads and ribbons are often used. The basic method of knitting in the technique of "Freeform" is the post column. You can knit it with stripes or circular. The most difficult task is to drag the hook through a large number of turns.

Theory is a theory, and you can only experience all the features of this knitting technique in practice. We offer you a simple master class on knitting a scarf in the technique of "Freeform" for beginners, after which you can begin to create more complex products.

Scarf in the technique of "Freeform"

We will need:

  1. To begin with, we'll make a loop at the end of the thread, and then we'll fasten 8-10 sticks without a crochet.
  2. Thread the hook into the last loop, and then on the connected row, tie another row with any loops. Similarly, tie a few more rows until the width of the canvas reaches one or two centimeters. Now you can change the color of yarn. There are several ways, but the easiest way is to connect both ends by tying them together with a knot. By the way, the knot itself can also become an element of the product in the technique of "Freeform".
  3. Continue crocheting, using different loops, combining patterns. Experiment with the structure and colors until the result satisfies you. "Freform" is the absence of rules! Take into account, the introduction of each new thread, an abundance of knots, twisted columns makes the product heavier.
  4. Make sure that the texture of the product is uniform, and the colors are combined with each other or advantageously contrasted. Of course, you can use monochrome yarn. It all depends on your preferences. This applies to the size of the scarf . It can be narrow or wide, long or short, with a flat edge or with fringe. In our example, the scarf is decorated with a multi-colored fringe, which enhances the variegation and brightness of the product.
  5. Very original look products from bulk scramblers. We offer photo lessons that will help you learn how to knit an unusual curl flower.
  6. Volumetric scramble
  7. All you need is a few skeins of yarn (preferably one color scale) and a hook.
  8. Dial 6 air loops and use a connecting loop to make a ring, tying it with columns without a crochet.
  9. Continue to knit the bars in a circle, going to polustolbiki (insert the hook into the back half loop).
  10. In the center of the element, enter a thread of a different color and continue to knit.
  11. Alternating columns without a crochet with polustolbikami and air loops, connect a volumetric flower. The last row is tied with strings of bright color with the loops of the "stepping stone".
