Lake Arenal


The largest lake in Costa Rica is also one of the main attractions of this country. This reservoir is artificial: there is a hydroelectric power station, which provides most of the country with electricity. And, of course, the lake attracts with its beauty numerous foreign tourists.

Those who crave truly sharp sensations, can move along a cable stretched between trees at an altitude of several hundred meters above the ground. On one of the shores of the lake is a small village called New Arenal. There you can buy delicious pastries (most praise black bread and apple strudel), as well as souvenirs . True, the latter are quite high prices.

How to get to Lake Arenal?

To be able to admire the lake, you need to overcome 90 km from San Jose , the capital of the state. From there there is a regular intercity bus. Another way to get here is by taking a rental car on the Pan-American Highway through CaƱas. This mountain road passes through the town of La Fortuna , and then goes along the lake.
