Lake Yablanitsa

In the mid-60s of the 20th century, near the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina , during the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Neretva River, a ditch was dug, which was subsequently filled with water. This is how the place now known as the Lake Yablanitsa has become a landmark for the country.

Location:

The terrain surrounding the lake is very picturesque: what only the mountains covered with forests are. In the warm season there is a lot of people. Local people come for weekends, tourists settle in numerous cottages that are built on the banks.

Dimensions of the lake are not large. In the widest place - it's just over 3 km, and at the narrowest width does not exceed a couple of hundred meters. Therefore, it is not entirely clear why the lake was named Yablanitsa, because its form has nothing to do with the apple.
