Larnaca Airport

Of all the airports in Cyprus, Larnaca International Airport is the largest; while in comparison with other international airports it is rather small - its area is only 112 thousand m 2 . The capacity of the only passenger terminal of Larnaca Airport is about 8 million people a year. The terminal consists of two levels: the upper one is used for departing passengers, the lower one is for incoming passengers. The terminal is connected to a flown (or departing) airplane by means of 16 teletypes; in some cases special buses are also used additionally.

General information

The airport is international, like the airport in Paphos . There is an airport just 4 km from Larnaka to the south-west; the road to the city takes only 10-15 minutes. Although the airport is small, all "basic" services can be obtained here: there are several souvenir shops, a duty-free shop, several branches of banks, a travel agency. Also on the territory of the terminal there is a cafe, a business center and a hall for vip-passengers. There is also a separate vip-terminal that serves private flights, as well as flights of heads of state and government.

After the division of Cyprus into the Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, the international airport in the Nicosia -divided capital city was closed. This happened in 1974. At the same time, on the basis of the old military airfield, a new airport was built in a hurry in Larnaka, which was destined to become the main air gateway of the island.

How to get from the airport to other Cypriot cities?

Bus transfers from the airport are carried out not only in Larnaca, but also in Nicosia (travel time is about 1 hour 15 minutes, the cost is about 8 euros) and Limassol (travel time is about one and a half hours, the fare is 9 euros). Bus traffic is carried out almost around the clock (with a break from 00-15 to 03-00). You can rent a taxi - their parking lot is also located on the airport. There are also several paid parking lots with a total capacity of about 2500 seats. The cost of the first 20 minutes of parking is 1 euro, the cost of parking for 7 days is 42 euros, the price depends on the time for which you leave the car here.

If you plan to explore many different places of interest, the best option for you is to rent a car ; in Cyprus at the airport of Larnaca several companies presenting this service are represented at once. The cost of rent is relatively low, and, again, if you plan to travel around the island, this option will be much less expensive than moving by taxi. Select an operator, from which you can find a more affordable option for rent, you can use the popular European service www.rentalcars.com.
