Ercan Airport

One of the airports of Cyprus is Ercan, located on the territory of Northern Cyprus. It is located near the village of Timwa near the capital of both states of the island, Nicosia . All planes that land at Ercan airport in Cyprus must necessarily complete an intermediate landing in Turkey. However, in August 2005, an airplane landed in Erjana, which carried out a direct flight from Baku - this event was so significant that the passengers were personally met by the Prime Minister.

A bit of history

After the partition in 1974 of the two states, the airport in Nicosia, the former main airport of Cyprus, was closed (today it is the base of the UN peacekeeping contingent). Next to Nicosia , an airport was built on the basis of Timwa airport, a former British military airbase. Today Ercan is the main "gateway" of Northern Cyprus.

Airport Today

Ercan airport is small: it has 2 runways - 2755 long (it is covered with high-quality concrete) and 1800 meters. This is enough to take large enough aircraft, but they can not take off from strips of this length. Ercan Airport in Cyprus receives twenty to thirty aircraft of four airlines daily, carrying out both regular and charter flights: Cyprus Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, Atlas Jet and Turkish Airlines. The main passenger traffic is provided by Cyprus Turkish Airlines. The control tower of the airport is capable of tracking and controlling simultaneously several aircraft taking off or landing at the airport.

The terminal of the airport Ercan meets the most modern requirements. The new terminal was opened in 2004. At the airport there are two restaurants, Duty Free shops and a VIP hall, intended for heads of state and other high-ranking guests of North Cyprus. In February of last year, the construction of a new terminal in Erdzhan was announced; it should be put into operation in 2019. Its capacity will be about 5 million passengers a year. It is also planned to increase the airfield and create new runways, which should double the number of aircraft received.

Transport

Regular buses belonging to the carrier company Kibhas Ltd, fly from Ercan airport to Nicosia (Lefkosh), Kyrenia (Girne), Famagusta, Morfu (Guzelyurt), Lefku. There is also a taxi stand near the airport. The car can be booked in advance directly on the airport's website - this will help to avoid queues and order a taxi a little cheaper than if you hired him after the arrival.

In addition, at the airport you can rent a car - and to choose a cheaper option the car should be booked in advance, which can also be done directly on the airport's website.
