The second largest city in Slovenia, Maribor is located in the north-east of the country, in the embrace of picturesque grape hills and the famous Pohorje mountain. The resort is home to numerous cultural and sporting events and is ideal for a relaxing holiday that enjoys all the advantages of a megalopolis combined with the relaxed atmosphere of the countryside. However, the greatest interest for tourists in Maribor is represented by one of the largest international airports in Slovenia , the features of which will be discussed later.

Airport to them. Edvard Ruzhana (abbreviated to the airport "Maribor") takes the 2nd place in importance after the capital among all Slovenian airports. It was built in 1976 and has been restored many times over the years. As a result of the last repair work on November 21, 2012 a new terminal was opened, for the creation of which the state authorities spent more than $ 15 million. Its capacity was 600,000 people a year.
Already at the end of 2016, the airline "AeroStroy Maribor", the airport operator, was sold to SHS Aviation, which is also the owner of the Belgian airline VLM Airlines. In plans for the near future, the new owner will invest up to $ 300 million. to the airport. The main priorities of SHS Aviation are:
- expansion of runways;
- construction of a new terminal;
- launch flights to major European cities, as well as several cities in China.
By the way, these airlines provide regular and charter flights in the following areas:
- VLM Airlines Slovenia - Dubrovnik, Split (Croatia);
- Windrose Airlines - Dnepropetrovsk, Kiev-Borispol (Ukraine).
Structure of the airport "Maribor"
To date, this aerodrome is nothing outstanding. Inside the building there are:
- 1st floor - a small bar offering drinks and light snacks, a restroom;
- 2nd floor - waiting room and luggage room.
The car park deserves special attention. It is divided into 3 zones:
- P1 - the territory to the right of the entrance to the airport for 350 parking spaces;
- P2 - another parking for 50 places, located near the technical buildings;
- P3 - zone for short-term parking (up to 60 min).
The payment for the parking in the parking lot is made at the cash counter in the terminal of the airport or in the car park between the zones P1 and P2 and depends directly on the time:
