Town Hall

The building of the city hall (Cort town Hall of Palma) is located on the Court Square, 1. It was built in the 17th century in the Baroque style. The building was built in the period from 1649 to 1680 years. For example, the famous cantilever overhangs with a depth of 3 m 60 cm, made by Josep Varrelem by the project of sculptor Gabriel Torres, were installed only in 1680. Some changes in its appearance were introduced until the XIX century.

Town Hall Architecture

The facade of the building is made in the style of a traditional Majorcan manor. Its decoration is the sculpture supporting the wooden cornice of the building: 5 women and 6 atlantes. The building has 3 floors. On the third floor between the windows are the famous Figuerae watches, which received their name in honor of the creator of the first bell, the Figuera era. The clock on the facade was first installed in 1849; The façade is now adorned with watches, created in 1869. Clock on the clock beat every hour.

Entrance doors are located on the "edges" of the building, and right in the center there is a tribune with a bench where you can relax. At the exit of the building is another attraction - a centuries-old olive tree.

Town Hall Interior

Inside the building looks no less impressive than outside. The imperial staircase deserves special attention. The entrance is guarded by two giants of papier-mache - Tofole and Francignan (respectively, right and left).

On the first floor of the building is the city library, whose age has exceeded 150 years. Residents of Mallorca can take books here, the rest can only use the reading room to view newspapers and magazines. The main hall of the town hall holds portraits of the famous residents of Mallorca.

What is nearby?

In the square there are several cozy cafes (one of them is practically in the shadow of that olive-long-liver). And to the north and east of the building is a shopping district - a paradise for shoppers . There are also the famous oldest jewelry stores in Palma . Almost all the surrounding streets (with the exception of Calle Colon) are pedestrian.
