Mosque of Sheikh Zamil Abdullah Al-Zamil


The Mosque of Sheikh Zamil Abdullah Al-Zamil (Al-Zamil Mosque) is considered the main attraction of the Albanian city of Shkoder , it is located near the city public museum on the main square. The mosque is built in classical Turkish style, and the interior combines Islamic canons and modern architectural solutions.

History of the mosque

The Sheikh Zamil Mosque of Abdullah Al-Zamil was designed by the architectural corporation ARC Architectural Consultants. In 1994, construction began on the site of the former mosque Rruga Fushe Cele, which was destroyed during the former communist regime, with the full financial support of a businessman from Saudi Arabia Sheikh Zamil Abdullah Al-Zamil. In 1995 the cathedral mosque of Juma was completed and ceremoniously opened for visiting believers and tourists. In 2008, the Islamic temple was reconstructed at the expense of the local budget. The mosque was named after Abu Bakr, who lived at the end of the 6th century and was the first caliph after the Prophet Muhammad. To date, the temple is also used as a madrasah - a Muslim educational institution.

Description of the structure

Juma mosque is quite large and stands out significantly against the architectural style of the city. The total area of ​​the Islamic temple is slightly more than 600 square meters, and the capacity is almost one and a half thousand people, which is very much for the city population of 96 thousand people. The Mosque of Sheikh Zamil Abdullah Al-Zamil in Albania is built in the classical Ottoman style, has two minarets round in section, each 42 meters high, a central silver dome 24 meters high and two small domes. The interior of the temple is made according to traditional Islamic rules with the addition of modern style. Pay attention to the forged candlesticks. The largest candlestick-candlestick is located under the central dome, representing three iron rings, with a diameter of 9, 6 and 3 meters. The other candlesticks are located along the perimeter of the temple and represent rings with a diameter of 2 meters on iron ropes.

The mosque can be visited and photographed, if there is no prayer, you are decently dressed, leave your shoes at the entrance and you will not make noise in the temple.
