Mountains of Norway

Mountain ranges of Norway

  1. Jotunheimen . The name of these mountains of Norway is translated as "Valley of giants", which is symbolic, since there are about 3 dozen peaks along the national park of the same name.   3. Finnmarksvidda. This area is home to the indigenous population of Norway - the Saami. In the autumn-winter period, you can observe the Northern Lights here, in winter - go skiing and snowmobiling.
  4. Sunnmøre Alps. Rise above the fjords at 2 thousand meters. Great for fans of freeride. During the whole year you can practice off-piste skiing. On gentle slopes there are routes of horseback, foot and ski walks.
  5. Dovrefjell. These mountains have a border with Southern and Central Norway, are in the national parks of Dovre and Dovrefjel Sundalsfjella . The tops of Dovrefjell were the place of inspiration of the famous Norwegian composer E. Grieg. For tourists there are several hiking, cycling and skiing trails.
  6. Lynsalpene. There is this mountain range just 300 km north of the Arctic Circle. In comparison with other slopes of Norway, the lowest temperature is here. These mountains are not so high, they rise directly from the fjords, over the raging rivers and waterfalls, small lakes and narrow gorges. Mountains of Spitsbergen

  1. Peak of Newton. This is the highest point of the Spitsbergen archipelago (1713 m). Located in the south of the peninsula of Nyu-Friesland, in Western Spitsbergen.
  2. The peak of Perrier. The second highest peak of the archipelago (1712 m), located 22 km north-west of Newton peak.
  3. Peak of Galileo. It is located on the island of Western Spitsbergen, north-west of Newton peak. Occupies the 5th place in height among all the peaks of the archipelago (1637 m).
  4. Miserifiellet. It is located on Medvezhy Island and is its highest point (536 m).
  5. Opera. The peak in Western Spitsbergen, the height of 951 m. The name was received due to an unusual form in the form of an amphitheater with a mountain Tenor in the center.
  6. Templet. The mountain is located in Western Spitsbergen, in the north of Sassenfjord. The name was given in connection with the external similarity of the mountain with the temple destroyed here.
  7. Ceres. The third highest point (1675 m), named after the homonymous dwarf planet.
  8. Chadwick. The mountain has a height of 1640 meters and is located on the peninsula of Niu-Friesland.

Glaciers

Finally, speaking of Norway, we can not fail to mention a few words about its glacial peaks :

  1. Svartisen . The highest point of this glacier is 1594 m, the maximum thickness of the ice mass is 450 m.
  2. Jostedalsbreen . Very large glacier in the Sogn og Fjordane region. One of the highest peaks is Högst Breakulen (1957 m).
  3. Brosvelbrin. It is the glacier of the Spitsbergen archipelago, is located in the southern part of Sfrfony. Leaves in the Barents Sea for a length of 20-30 km.
