National parks of Montenegro

Montenegro , like other countries of the Balkan Peninsula, is famous for its natural resources. It is here that you can enjoy the mountain air, cool lakes, warm sea water, amazing plants and rare animals.

The natural diversity of the "country of the Black Mountains"

The authorities of the state take care of preserving the gifts of nature. Today, 5 protected areas have been created on its territory:

  1. The Durmitor National Park in Montenegro is located on an area of ​​39 thousand hectares. The territory of the park is formed by mountain massifs and glacial lakes. About 250 species of animals and 1,300 relic plants became habitants of the reserves. Durmitor is under the protection of UNESCO.
  2. Among the reserves of Montenegro is the Biograd mountain . This national park is spread over 5,5 thousand hectares. Its main value is the relict forest, which is included in the top three of the last similar forests in Europe. The age of many trees in this forest ranges from 500 to 1000 years.
  3. Lovcen National Park is known not only in Montenegro, but also far beyond its borders. It is located on the hill of the same name with a height of 1660 m, and the park area reaches 6,5 thousand hectares. In addition to the diverse flora (about 1350 species), visitors to Lovcen expect a lot of interesting things. One of the mountain peaks became the mausoleum of the ruler of Peter II . The nearest city and national park is connected by a road, which is interrupted at the peak of Ozerny.
  4. Park Milocer in Montenegro is a favorite vacation spot for the president of the country and his family. The territory of the reserve is 18 hectares, on which exotic plants, brought from different countries, grow on the order of 400 species. Milocer is in the resort area, nearby are beaches, hotels and restaurants.
  5. The largest freshwater pond in Montenegro and at the same time the most popular National Park is Skadar Lake . The water area of ​​the reservoir is 40 thousand km, the rest of the territory belongs to neighboring Albania . The lake sheltered 270 species of birds, 50 species of fish.
