The Museum of Old Monaco is a unique museum on the territory of Monaco , which is worth a visit if you want to penetrate the history of the country and the identity of its primordial culture and traditions.
One of the most interesting museums in Monaco is dedicated to the traditions and heritage of the Monegasques. Monegasques are the indigenous people of the principality of Monaco, which now accounts for about 21% of the total population.
In 1924 several old families of Monaco initiated the creation of the National Committee of Monegasque traditions, whose goal is to maintain and preserve the heritage, language, traditions of the ancient principality. This committee also opened the Museum of Old Monaco. It presents clothes, ceramics, household items, musical instruments, photographs, furniture and works of art of the indigenous population. The museum collection allows you to recreate a picture of life that was here centuries ago, and tell the story of this place, who lived here and how the past turned into the present.
Location and opening hours of the Old Monaco Museum
The museum is located on one of the narrow streets in the Old Town area (Monaco-Ville), where it still has a medieval atmosphere. Since the area of Monaco is only 2 square kilometers, you can easily bypass it on foot and easily reach the Museum of Old Monaco. Very close to it is another interesting museum - the oceanographic , and within 5 minutes walk are such famous sights as the Gardens of St. Martin and the Cathedral of St. Nicholas .
The museum is open from 11.00 to 16.00 on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, however only from June to September. You can walk around the museum both independently and order an excursion. Admission is free, the tour is also free.
