This disease is caused by inflammation of the mucous nasopharynx, which is, as a rule, infectious. The most common causes of the disease are hypothermia, because often nasopharyngitis, the symptoms of which are described below, are called colds.
Acute nasopharyngitis
Factors of the disease development are:
- weakened immunity;
- bad habits, especially smoking;
- frequent colds;
- contaminated air.
Signs of pathology are the same in adults and in children:
- the temperature can, as rising, remain unchanged;
- in the nasopharynx of the patient there is inflammation, accompanied by the accumulation of mucus sometimes with an admixture of blood;
- in the throat, there is a pain when swallowing, tingling, dryness, sometimes patients complain of pain in the back of the head;
- when examined, the doctor observes the discharge on the tonsils, swelling of the mucosa.
When the first symptoms are detected, nasopharyngitis requires immediate treatment. It is important to consult a doctor and not try to cure the disease on your own, so it can lead to complications and the need for prompt intervention.
Chronic nasopharyngitis
Chronic nasopharyngitis can occur in two forms:
- Atrophic. This form is characterized by thinning of the mucous membrane and its drying, which leads to dysphagia and causes bad breath. A person experiences constant dryness in the mouth, so when talking, he is forced to drink more water.
- Hypertrophic. With this nasopharyngitis, the mucous membranes swell and increase in volume. The patient is always worried about the mucus secreted from the nose, as well as lacrimation .
Meningococcal nasopharyngitis
In some cases, nasopharyngitis is a consequence of the development of meningococcal infection, the symptoms of which often remain unidentified. The disease can quickly end itself, and in other cases, as a result of the ingress of bacteria into the blood, lead to sepsis. The disease can go into meningitis or meningococcemia. To distinguish between an infection and a common cold, it is necessary to pay attention to such signs:
- fever;
- dizziness;
- back pain;
- photophobia;
- convulsions;
- diarrhea;
- rashes;
- anxiety;
- stomach ache.
Treatment of nasopharyngitis
Combating the disease involves the elimination of symptoms and the use of antiviral drugs in case of confirmation of the viral nature of the disease.
Patients are assigned:
- bed rest;
- abundant drinking;
- reception mucolytics;
- lavage of the nasopharynx.
