Palace Astana

Among the most beautiful sights of Malaysia there is a palace Astana, located in a picturesque place of Sarawak, on the river bank. Every year, thousands of tourists come here to admire the snow-white structure. This memorial of architecture is also the current residence of the current governor.

History of Astana Palace

The former palace of the second rajah of Sarawak - Charles Brook - has a romantic history. It was conceived as a gift to the beloved wife of Raja Margaret Alice and presented on the day of the wedding ceremony. Construction was completed in 1870, and since then the bank of the Kuching River has adorned this white building in a colonial style.

What is remarkable about the palace of Raja?

The very name "Astana" - from the local dialect of the Malay language is translated as "palace". At first glance, the building, crowned with a turret with a clock, does not quite match its name. But at the time of its construction it was considered the top of perfection and grace in this eastern country. The palace complex is enclosed by a low openwork fence, behind which are three separate buildings, connected by narrow covered passages.

The entrance to the palace territory is not allowed to tourists - after all, there is a government building here. But no one forbids walking around the area, so anyone who wishes can admire the original architecture of the century before last - but only through the fence. In the evening, from the other bank of the Kuching River, a spectacular spectacle opens - the palace of the Rajah glowing with millions of lights, because the local authorities have paid no attention to its coverage. Therefore, among the local population and visitors, the embankment is very popular.

How to get to the Astana Palace?

The building is located near the Istana Jetty ferry. You can get here either by ferry from another station or on foot: the famous palace is located in the very center of the city.
