Types of MDF skirting boards

Like skirting boards made of other materials, MDF skirting boards differ in their width, shape, color, pattern, texture. Depending on how you see your interior, you are free to choose this or that parameter.

Of course, depending on its purpose, it can be a floor or ceiling MDF plinth. They are fixed, respectively, on the floor or at the ceiling of the room.

Depending on the surface coating, the MDF skirting boards can be laminated, veneered, and the MDF plinth for painting is a separate category.

Self-painting MDF plinths in the right color, for example, in white or wenge, is not the easiest thing, because under the influence of paint and varnish, because of the porous structure on MDF, pile will rise. To prevent this from happening, first you need to treat the skirting boards with a special primer and then remove the pile that has risen. Then again in two layers to apply an aligning primer with an intermediate grinding. And only after all these manipulations done can be applied to the main coloring composition, performing a decorative and protective role.

Ways to mount skirting boards MDF

The simplest way is with the use of "liquid nails" or other glue. This method is usually used for slats that do not have a fastening channel. But for this method the surface must be perfectly flat.

Another way is to fix the plinth to the screws with dowels. It involves drilling holes in the walls, where the dowels are then inserted. Planks are screwed in the places of the presence of dowels.

More convenient method of fastening - with the help of special clips, fastening racks and latches. For this, fastening channels must be present on the back of the plinth. First, you fix the spring clips to the walls at a distance of 60 cm. Next, all the wires that you want to hide under the baseboard are laid against the wall, after which you have to mount the slats by placing them on the clips.

Convenience of this method - in the possibility of quick and easy dismantling of the strips, if necessary. They are simply fastened with fasteners, so they can be easily removed and put back on.
