How to make a fireplace portal from plasterboard?

The work will be performed in several stages:

  1. Breadboarding . For the manufacture of the layout you need a foam and a strong cardboard based on PVA glue. It is desirable to open the ready structure with white paint. On the layout you will immediately see the design flaws, so you will have the opportunity to correct them in time.
  2. The base of the fireplace . Using a metal profile, assemble the frame. Use self-tapping screws for fastening. Verticality / horizontality of the lines should be checked by level, in the rectangularity of the mounting areas - by measuring tape or cord.
  3. Skeleton casing . For plating, use pre-cut plasterboard sheets. If it is supposed that your false fireplace will be decorated with gypsum or alabaster, then any material can be attached with mounting glue - from polyurethane foam to stone.
  4. The foot . It is made of double sheets of plasterboard. They should be mounted on glue or silicone. For finishing the mantelpiece it is better to use self-tapping screws or special glue. Fix the shelf reliably, as it will have a fairly large load.
  5. Angles . When the construction of the product is sheathed, care must be taken of the joints. Ideally, the whole surface of the fireplace needs to be puttied, having preformed the edges with a perforated corner made of galvanized steel.
