American psychologist J. Holland, studying the individual characteristics of people, proposed a classification, based on what kind of personality in what area will achieve success and due to what qualities. In total, six basic types of personality were identified.

Conventional type. These people are good performers. They follow a stereotyped, conservative approach. There are abilities to process numerical information, easily cope with monotonous, routine work, work on instructions. Such people achieve success in their work, where precision, concentration, clarity and attentiveness are needed. Professions: engineer, accountant, commodity manager, economist, financial employee, etc.
Intellectual type. People of this type are prone to mental activity. They have developed analytical skills and theoretical thinking. They prefer to solve complex intellectual problems, than to solve concrete practical questions. Professions: usually mathematicians, physicists, astronomers, programmers, etc.
Enterprising type. Such individuals tend to areas of activity where one can show one's ingenuity. They are full of enthusiasm, initiative and impulsive. They usually choose leadership roles - this allows them to manifest themselves, satisfy the need for domination and recognition. They are active and enterprising. Professions: director, entrepreneur, administrator, journalist, lawyer, diplomat, etc.
Social type. The goals and tasks of these people are aimed at rapprochement with people, maximum interaction with society. They strive to teach, educate. They need contacts, they can be dependent on the opinions of others. They are good at communicating, empathizing. At the decision of problems lean, basically on emotions, feelings and sensations. Professions: teacher, educator, psychologist, doctor, social worker, etc.
Artistic type. These people are far from the static work schedule and activities, where the use of physical force is necessary.
