And replacing the cartridge in a mixer is an operation that sooner or later each owner of a single-lever mixer will have to face, since this element is most often broken. Let's consider more in detail, because of what failure can occur and how to replace the cartridge in the mixer.
Types of cartridges
Cartridges for mixers are of two types:
- A ball cartridge mixes water flowing through the holes in the valve body. The main drawback of this type of cartridge for mixers is the possibility of forming a calcareous deposit between the sealing tab and the ball. Because of this at the moment they almost do not produce.
- The lamellar cartridge consists of two ceramic plates that fit tightly together. Speaking of which cartridge is better for the mixer, it is worth mentioning this particular model. A qualitatively manufactured device can work without breakages for many years. However, this cartridge can also fail.
Possible causes of breakage
The failure of a ceramic cartridge for a mixer can be associated with a number of reasons:
- water quality does not meet the requirements of the manufacturer;
- salt deposits;
- improper operation of the mixer;
- water pressure drop;
- poor-quality device.
How do I replace the cartridge?
- Before removing the cartridge from the mixer, make sure that the water supply is shut off.
- Remove the cap indicating the color of the water.
- Underneath is a fixing screw, which can be unscrewed by a suitable screwdriver.
- Remove the mixer arm and protective ring.
- Unscrew the clamping nut using the adjustable wrench.
- Remove the defective ceramic cartridge.
- Clean the device of dirt and limescale.
- Install a new replaceable cartridge for the mixer in place of the old one and repeat all operations in reverse order.
- Check the operation of the device.
