Review of the book "Ancient monsters of Russia. Paleontological stories for children and adults ", Nelikhov Anton

The book "Ancient Monsters of Russia" is another edition of MIF, which attracts attention with its name, design and content. We often hear about dinosaurs and prehistoric monsters that inhabited our planet. But this book is about the animal and vegetable world that existed on the territory of our country. Agree, it is interesting to know who lived in the place of your house or city many millions of years ago.

Decor

The size of the book is not quite standard, square 25 * 25 cm. The cover is dense, high-quality, pages are coated, medium density, the quality of printing is always at an altitude - the book is nice to hold.

Content

The book is a collection of 33 stories about amazing animals that inhabited the territory of modern Russia many millions of years ago. The texts are written in a lively, interesting language, understandable to both the little reader and the adult. Each is accompanied by colorful detailed illustrations, which can be long considered. Some pictures with comments simply complement the text, some printed on the whole spread, allow to plunge into the world of prehistoric animals and to feel the atmosphere of those times.

The submission of the material differs from the usual encyclopedias that we are accustomed to hold in our hands. The text carries away, accompanied by additional notes, interesting facts, allowing more complete picture.

In the beginning you will find the author's word, then - the section "Geological clock", in which the reader is introduced to the chronology and duration of the periods: from Katarchean to anthropogenic. Then follows the stories of the history of bacteria, insects, marine and land animals themselves, their way of life, causes of extinction and findings of paleontologists.

The only thing, perhaps, that confused - the chosen font, which seemed too stretched. However, you quickly get used to it.

Who will be interested?

I would recommend this book to all young paleontologists, dinosaur-loving preschoolers and junior schoolchildren, including for self-reading.

Tatyana, the boy's mother is 6.5 years old.
