History of the estate

The first house belonging to the owner of Nizhny Novgorod steel plant G.Rukavishnikov appeared on the Verkhne-Volzhskaya embankment in the 1840s. There was nothing special about it, but when the estate passed to the heir, S. Rukavishnoy, the situation changed. He decided to turn a modest by the standards of a millionaire two-story house into a luxurious manor in the style of an Italian palazzo. Architects and artists helped the merchant realize his idea. The third floor was added to the building, the wings of the facade, the staircase of marble. The mansion was richly decorated with stucco, parquet, atlantes, high reliefs. Eight people (members of the Rukavishnikov family) lived in fifty rooms!

About the unprecedented luxury of the estate-palace merchant Rukavishnikov spoke not only in Nizhny Novgorod, but also far beyond its borders. The majestic structure was mentioned more than once in the works of art of famous writers. And today the glory of this complex attracts thousands of tourists.
