The national calendar did not always provide for holidays for rest, most often they were connected with peasant labor: the people noted high yields, the successful completion of sowing and the completion of other types of peasant labor.
September 8, combined folk traditions and church feast, dedicated to the Great Martyr Natalia; its signs are associated with the second part of the holiday, because on that day the peasants finished cleaning the oats: the feast of Natalia-fescue. The last collected oat sheaf was put in a red corner and stored until the next harvest. He was not only an indicator of wealth, but also a guardian of women's fate from sorrows and tears, and the owners of the house protected from evil forces.

The signs and superstitions on September 8 were associated with peasant cares: the peasants dried the sheaves in shelters, preparing them for the winter. And so that it does not happen during the drying of the fire, they beguile the owner of the barn: the evil old man-Ovinnik - oatmeal pie.
Signs on September 8 reported that for a full life until the spring it was necessary for the whole family to cook dishes from oats: cookies, oat jelly, porridge porridge, pies from oatmeal. And since the adults were busy drying the sheaves, the cooking was done by "old and small."
Weather signs
Noticed and the weather on this day:
- a cold morning performance on that day foreshadowed the onset of early winter;
- warned about the possible severe winter and not falling from the oaks and birches leaves;
- Pavel Ryabinnik, whose day was also celebrated on September 8th, on Natalin's Day, reported its signs: the abundance of clustered mountain ash on the trees seemed to warn that cold and hungry winter is coming. In addition, it was considered a good sign to bring in this day in the house a sprig of mountain ash, which was to become a kind of amulet for the owners;
- there were traditions of naming: they believed that if a girl born on this day is called Natalia, she will have a happy life.
