Sorrel - growing from seeds

In the summer, the greens on our tables are daily: we put it in soups and salads, decorate the second dishes and just sprinkle from above to increase appetite. Sorrel is very rich in essential acids, and carotene in it is much more than carrots.

Planting sorrel seeds

After disembarkation, this culture can quite fruitfully grow for several years in one place. In four years it will be necessary to pick up another place for disembarkation, since the yield will begin to fall and the quality of the sheet itself will also deteriorate noticeably. Before planting sorrel seeds, it is necessary to select a site in high humidity and fertile soil.

It is best to plant sorrel seeds in loam, as this soil is most suitable for growing this crop. Suitable also for sandy loam. For such lands, addition of humus is necessary. If you plan to plant greens on peat soils, you should ensure good drainage. It is allowed to erect on weakly acidic lands.

Consider the basic rules and advice on how to plant sorrel seeds.

  1. Work begins in the autumn. The site chosen for disembarkation is dug to the bayonet of the shovel, in parallel manure and humus are applied. Organics will need about 7 kg, add potassium chloride and superphosphates, depending on the type of soil on the site. Urea and nitrogen fertilizers are also recommended.
  2. To grow sorrel from seeds it is possible both in the beginning of spring, and during the summer. If you plant the seeds in the early spring, you will get a ready harvest in the summer. In summer, work starts at the very end of June or early July. For summer plantings, beds in which the onions, salad or radish are grown are excellent. During the June planting, the harvest can be harvested next spring. It is also allowed to sow in late autumn for the winter. Choose the time of planting should be such that before the frost, the seeds do not have time to germinate.
  3. For each of the chosen terms there are rules of care. If this is a summer crop - the most important rule for obtaining a good harvest is quality and timely watering. For podzimnego crop suitable sandy soils and regions with a temperate climate, then the seeds do not have time to germinate and the harvest will be abundant.
  4. For regions with a very severe climate, some summer residents decide to plant sorrel seeds of the house, as this crop grows perfectly in containers on balconies and verandas. The main thing is to choose the height of the walls correctly and mix all the constituents of the soil in the required proportions.
  5. For the cultivation of sorrel from seeds, regular beds are prepared at a distance of 45 cm. A so-called two-line scheme with a tape distance of half a meter is used. If in a loam area, three rows can be planted on a garden bed at once.
  6. When the plant reaches the phase of four leaves, plantings are thined out by 10 cm.

Care of the beds

With the main points of the agrotechnics of growing sorrel, we got acquainted, now we will stop a little on the proper care of crops. The most important for quality The crops are weeding, loosening the soil and actively combating weeds. When growing sorrel from seeds, pest control (beetles, leaf beetles and aphids) is carried out only after cutting the foliage.

If you sowed seeds in the summer or fall, then about a month and a half before the frost, everything is cut to the root. Otherwise, the foliage will simply lie on the ground and block the access of air, and this in turn will provoke decay of the roots. In the autumn period between the beds must compost to cover the roots. Next year in the spring mineral fertilizing is introduced to increase the yield. Each time after cutting the leaves, a mixture of mineral and nitrogen fertilizers is introduced.
