Synovitis of the hip joint

The synovitis of the hip joint is an inflammation of its synovial membrane with the formation of effusion (exudate) in the affected joint cavity.

Types of synovitis

There are several forms of this disease:

  1. Traumatic synovitis - occurs due to mechanical damage to the joint, which causes a rupture of the synovial bag or damage to the cartilaginous tissue. One of the most common forms of the disease, but in the case of the hip joint is not so common.
  2. Infectious synovitis - occurs when penetrating into the synovial capsule pathogenic microorganisms. It can manifest itself as a complication in arthritis , various infectious diseases by penetrating through the lymph and blood.
  3. Reactive synovitis of the hip joint - is a kind of allergic reaction of the body to infectious or noninfectious damage. The synovial membrane suffers from the effects of antibodies produced by the body to combat pathology, or from the chemical effects of certain drugs.
  4. Transient synovitis of the hip joint is a rapidly developing form of the disease, usually observed in children, with an end not established cause. Presumably, it can be triggered by viral infections and excessive strain on the joint.

Symptoms of hip synovitis

In their course, the synovitis is divided into acute and chronic.

When an acute synovitis is observed:

Chronic synovitis can develop almost asymptomatically, not counting weak, easily tolerated pain.

In general, with synovitis of the hip joint, pain sensations are not intensive, because the disease can not attract attention for quite a long time.

Treatment of synovitis of the hip joint

For the treatment of the disease the following measures are taken:

  1. If possible, limit the mobility and load on the affected joint.
  2. Admission of anti-inflammatory and, if necessary, antibacterial drugs.
  3. Admission of vitamin complexes and immunomodulators .
  4. At an elevated temperature, antipyretic agents are recommended.
  5. Puncture of the joint to remove accumulated fluid there.
  6. Physiotherapy - electrophoresis, wave therapy, etc.
  7. Surgical intervention is performed in case of ineffectiveness of conservative methods of treatment and consists in removal of the affected area of the synovium.

In chronic synovitis, enzyme preparations are used for treatment, which reduce the production of synovial fluid, as well as agents that reduce the permeability of cell membranes.
