Terrarium by own hands

Before starting a pet, you need to learn as much as possible about its nutrition, conditions and standards of living. Keep cold-blooded reptiles and amphibians (toads, crocodiles, turtles) in special terrariums made of plywood, particle board, plexiglas. A very important component is the correct choice of humidity and temperature conditions.

Types of terrariums

A vertical terrarium is suitable for animals that lead a woody lifestyle, for example chameleons , iguanas, some snakes. The horizontal type is intended for land tortoises , geckos, lizards, that is for pets that live in nature for the most part on earth. The variant in the form of a cube is universal, since it fits almost everything, including reptiles living in the ground. If you decide to have a cayman or a water turtle, then you will need a water aquarium.

How to make a terrarium for a turtle yourself?

How to equip a turtle terrarium? Everything is very simple. If your turtle is one of the terrestrial, then for the sake of economy you can make a terrarium not from plexiglass, but from plywood. The larger the capacity, the better for the pet. In this case, we proceed to the construction of a product with the dimensions 87h47h48 cm.

  1. Remember that all materials must be eco-friendly. The bottom and three walls will be made of plywood, the front part - made of glass. We take the basis of 87x47 cm and liquid nails on a water basis.
  2. As tools, you will need an "adhesive" gun, a screwdriver and a small drill.

  3. On the basis of glue, and then nail on the bar from each side. They will serve as supports.
  4. Start fixing the side walls by screwing special corners.
  5. When finished with the installation of the sides, proceed to the rear wall: use liquid glue and screws as fasteners.
  6. You need to make the top cover, if you have, for example, cats, dogs, birds.

  7. We make the second floor, so that the bars do not spoil the view and do not interfere with the animal. Take three small slats, glue them and from above "plant" the plywood, which will be a few millimeters already lower. This is necessary for the correct mounting of the glass.
  8. On the glue we attach the rail, on which the glass will go.
  9. It is necessary to make ventilation. For this, 2 holes are cut at the sides.
  10. Plywood needs to be pasted with a film that imitates a tree, for example.

  11. The back panel can be finished with oven-dried bark of a tree. Pour it with the same liquid nails.
  12. If there is an incandescent lamp in the terrarium, protect it with a plafond.

You can also glue the film on the floor.

The floor is covered with shavings. Got:

Take this variant of the scenery for a note.

A terrarium for a freshwater red-bellied turtle should be more like an aquarium.
