The bed creaks - what should I do?

Your bed began to squeak, but the plans do not include the choice of a new one? Let's try to figure out why the creaking bed and think about what to do when this happens.

There are two main reasons for the creaking of any bed : wood drying and loosening of fasteners. The creak appears from the friction of the two parts of the bed. Since such furniture is often produced from chipboard and wood, and their parts are connected by means of screws or special fasteners, then in time the details of the bed begin to move little by little relative to each other, and a creak arises. And it is more difficult to squeeze rubbing details, if the bed is wooden or made of particle board, it is rather difficult.

How to remove the creak of a wooden bed?

To determine which part of the wooden bed creaks, it is necessary to disassemble it. Remove the mattress and, putting it on the floor, check it for squeak. Perhaps it's not the whole bed creaking at you, but only the springs of an old mattress. In the same bed can make creaking sounds and legs, and the places of fastenings, and the boards under the mattress.

Now you can try to eliminate an unpleasant creak. First of all, it is worth trying to tighten tightly all the bed fixings: screws, nuts, bolts, and smudge these places with joinery glue. After that, the glue should dry well and only then it will be possible to use the bed. If the attachment is old and tightened more tightly, install additional metal corners on the back of the bed base.

Still it is possible to grease all joints in which there is a friction, any greasing: rubber glue, soap, paraffin candle, салидолом or even children's powder. For lubrication, a special spray with graphite or silicone is suitable. After applying this coating on the details of the bed, the friction, and hence the creak, should disappear.

What to do if your bed is creaking ground, or rather the lamellae, of which it consists? In this case, getting rid of the creaking may be the replacement of the bed bases. Alternatively, you can swap them. If the bed continues to squeak, then the reason for this you have not yet found.

A creak in the legs of the bed can be removed by fixing them more reliably. But most often you will not be able to remove the creak at this place in the bed. You can try to install new legs, but this is quite a difficult task and not every owner can cope with it. Therefore, the easiest way to remove or saw off the legs, and then your bed with a creative approach will turn into a modern floor box.
