The microwave oven stopped heating

There are probably few people without a microwave oven in a modern kitchen. After all, it is very convenient - in a few minutes to warm up any food without smearing bulky dishes. But what if the microwave suddenly stopped heating, and what is the problem with this situation. Let's find out!

Why did the microwave stop warming?

The most trivial reason why a microwave oven does not heat or warm up food is interruptions in the electrical network. Light as such is, but the voltage is not enough for normal operation. Often this happens in the countryside or in the private sector, but residents of high-rise buildings almost never suffer from such disruptions.

Another cause of poor microwave performance is its contamination. Fat, falling on the walls and dish during the heating up of food over time accumulates and absorbs radiation instead of heated products.

If the microwave stopped heating, but it works, that is, the tray is spinning, there can be several reasons, and some knowledge in the electrician will be required to eliminate them. Let's arm ourselves with an ohmmeter and understand the possible causes of the breakdown:

  1. The most basic thing that can break in a microwave is a magnetron - a lamp that emits electromagnetic waves. Most often, this lamp oxidizes or burns contacts that are easy to replace or clean.
  2. It is necessary to check the operation of the door closing sensor - it may be faulty, and then the microwave oven will not turn on the heating.
  3. The fuse also often breaks down - it turns black.
  4. After that, check the fuse and high-voltage fuses on the lamp itself - if the resistance is at zero, they are burned out.
  5. A multiplier (diode and capacitor) can also fail. If the ohmmeter needle oscillates - they are normal, if not - are subject to replacement.
  6. The capacitor on the lamp filter should be tested very carefully. To do this, it is necessary to close the terminals with a special screwdriver, and then test the probe with it.
  7. The primary winding of the capacitor is normally 220V - make sure of this.
