Vaginal atresia

By the term, as atresia of the vagina, in gynecology it is customary to understand a disorder in which the fusion of the vaginal walls is observed. In total, 2 forms of this disease are distinguished: congenital and acquired. In the first case, the cause of its occurrence is a violation of the process of formation of reproductive organs at the stage of intrauterine development. The acquired form is much less common, and may be a consequence of surgical interventions on the pelvic organs.

With this disorder, vaginal overgrowth can be observed in almost any part of the vagina: upper, middle, lower. Depending on the severity of the disorder, a partial, complete and fistulous form is identified.

How does the disease manifest itself?

In most such cases, up to a certain point the girl does not even suspect that she has such a disease. As a rule, it makes itself felt only with the onset of puberty.

So, as a result of overgrowing of the vagina in girls, the first menstruation is delayed, so-called amenorrhea develops . It is she who is the reason for the treatment of the young girl's parents for explanations to the gynecologist.

When examining a patient in a gynecological chair, the doctor diagnoses atresia, on the basis of the hematocolpos (which accumulates blood in the vaginal cavity). As the menstrual blood is filled in the cervical canal, the uterine cavity, the fallopian tubes, the girls have complaints of severe cyclic pain.

How is vaginal atresia treated?

This type of disorder is treated exclusively surgically. To do this, first cleanse the vagina from blood clots, completely drain the blood from the fallopian tubes, if it is there (using laparotomy). Only then do the vaginal plastic.

In those cases when doctors after an operation, after a while, diagnose the threat of re-fusion, they prescribe colpelongation (stretching and lengthening the vagina in the lower part of the vagina).
