The wedding calendar was invented by our distant ancestors. This calendar displays the most favorable days for marriage, as well as days in which it is not recommended to exchange rings. In olden times, people never appointed a wedding day on an unfavorable day. Perhaps, that's why our great-grandparents were divorced very rarely. From the day that was chosen for the wedding, the happiness and health of the future married couple depended. In the modern world, most of the future brides determine the favorable days for weddings according to the church wedding calendar. Also, it is quite popular to determine the appropriate wedding day for the lunar calendar.
Wedding on the Orthodox calendar
The Orthodox wedding calendar is mainly used by couples who are going to get married. This important spiritual rite is held not all days, but only in strictly defined. The list of these days is changing every year. There are a number of general rules, according to which the wedding is not held:
- The wedding is not held on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday;
- The wedding is not held on the eve of church holidays (the day before the holiday);
- The wedding is not held during the posts: Lent, Petrov fasting, Assumption fast and Christmas fasting;
- The wedding is not held from 7 to 19 January (from Christmas to Epiphany), from 7 to 13 February (before the Carnival), on Easter Day;
- The wedding is not held on 10, 11, 26, 27 September (the days of the Beheading of John the Baptist and the building of the Cross of the Lord);
- The wedding is not held the day before the temple festival (in each temple there is a calendar of temple festivals).
We offer Orthodox calendar of weddings for 2012. According to the church calendar, the wedding date is not recommended for the following days:
- from January 1 to January 6 (Christmas Post) from February 27 to April 14 (Lent);
- from June 11 to July 11 (Petrov Post);
- from August 14 to August 28 (Uspensky post);
- from November 28 to January 6 (Christmas Post).
Unfavorable days for the wedding are the days of the great holidays: in January - 7, 14, 18; in February - 15, 18; in April - from 15 to 21, 28; in May - 24; in June - 2, 3, 11; in August - 19, 28; in September - 10, 11, 21, 26, 27; in October - 14.
In any case, before choosing the most suitable day for the wedding, you should turn to the priest of the church where you are going to hold the solemn ceremony. Father will help pick up the day and tell you what preparations are necessary before the wedding.
Lunar wedding
It is known that the stars and the moon can determine the fate of a person and the most important events in his life. Choosing the date of the wedding according to the lunar calendar, the future husband and wife not only pick up an auspicious day, but also in some sense predetermine the well-being of marriage. The lunar calendar is compiled for each year separately. There are days in which, according to the lunar calendar, the wedding is not recommended:
- the days of the waning moon;
- the days when the moon is in the sign of Aquarius - such an alliance may prove short-lived;
- the days when the moon is in the sign of Scorpio or Virgo - an early death of one of the spouses is possible;
- the day of the lunar eclipse.
Only a professional astrologer can compose an individual lunar calendar for a wedding couple. For those couples who are not going to contact an astrologer, it is recommended not to assign a wedding day on the days listed above.
Of course, not only the stars and the church blessing are the key to the happiness of married life. Love, trust, loyalty and mutual respect - without these feelings, even the most favorable day for all indicators, can not give happiness in family life.
