Weimaraner - description of the breed

Weimaraner dogs have a very ancient history, rooted in Germany at the beginning of the XIX century. Sometimes the Weimaraner is called the mysterious name "silver ghost". There is an opinion that the breed was bred by Carl August, Duke of Weimar. It is believed that dogs of this breed were very appreciated by the royal courts of Europe. That is why weimaraner can not be kept in the cage: the dog must constantly have direct contact with his master.

According to the breed standard, weimaraner is considered a hunting dogfriend. The ratio of the length of its body and the height at the withers is approximately 12:11. The weight of males is about 40 kg, and the female - about 35 kg.

Coat color - different shades of gray. On the head and ears, the coat is slightly lighter. Small white marks on the paws and chest of the dog are allowed. On the back along the ridge is a dark strip.

The wool cover of the Weimaranera can be of two types. Shorthair - with a hard short covering coat, and long-haired - with a long soft slightly wavy cover coat.

The muzzle of the dog is powerful and long and angular. Jaws strong, cheekbones well developed. Rounded intelligent eyes are set obliquely. Eye color can range from dark amber to light amber. Weimaraner puppies have sky-blue eyes, their color changes with age. Lobate-like ears with rounded edges are placed high and close to each other.

The gracefully curved, muscular neck is set high. The back of the dog should be muscular and straight. The thorax is well formed, the stomach is without frying. A strong tail is set relatively low.

The fat, dry forelimbs are parallel to each other. The toes on the paws are arched, and the middle fingers are slightly longer than the others - this is a distinctive feature of dogs of the Weimaraner breed.

Weimaraner character

Weimaraner does not tolerate loneliness at all. He is devotedly devoted to his master and his family, loves children and always can protect them.

The dog is not aggressive, it has a cheerful and friendly character. When teaching, it can not be punished physically, it is better to encourage praise and affection: this will give better results.

Weimaraner is an agile and fast dog. Therefore, she must be constantly busy with something. This will give way to her energy.
