Aquarium sharks

Aquarium sharks, and, more simply, Siamese pangasius or shark catfish, are a very common type of pet. In nature there are two types of aquarium sharks, namely:

  1. Pangasius hypophthalmus, which is a predator and grows to a very large size.
  2. Pangasius sutchi is more "harmless" and not aggressive fish.

External differences of aquarium small sharks

It is unlikely that this fish can be confused with any other species. Shark catfish has a flattened head, a huge mouth and large eyes. The fin on the back is shark-shaped, and on the tail consists of two blades. As a rule, young individuals have a gray or ash color with a pair of silver strips on the sides. In captivity, even in the largest capacity, an aquarium fish dwarf shark will not grow more than 60 cm. The birds are usually somewhat larger than males and in nature, individuals can meet up to 1.5 meters.

The nature of aquarium fish of freshwater sharks

This kind of pets is suitable for those aquarists who adore moving fish. Once in their new home for the first time, the shark catfish begins to panic, rush and tear down everything in its path. He can even pretend to be dead for a while or faint. However, after a couple of minutes, the "shark" acclimatizes and is already worn around the aquarium, as if living here all the time. The aquarium fish black shark gets along well with all other inhabitants, such as cichlids , gouramis, barbs or fish knives.

Content

The minimum volume of the aquarium should be at least 350-400 liters. As a decoration, you can use large stones, driftwood, fine sand and well-fortified plants, both artificial and real. Aquarium fish, similar to sharks, feel very bad in the old and musty water. This is what makes it necessary to equip their "house" with a high-quality aeration and filtration system. Also, every day, 30% of the total amount of water must be changed to fresh and filtered. Fish like a warm environment, so it is worthwhile to provide them with an optimal temperature regime, namely 24 - 29 ° C.

Feeding

It is necessary to prepare for the fact that the shark catfish is an extremely voracious pet. Feed it should be a live and frozen (but pre-thawed) small fry, crushed beef, slices of squid and beef heart. You can give and dry food in granules, but not in the form of flakes.
