The Borobudur Temple - history

There are a number of theories about who and when Borobudur was built. Most likely, it was erected between 750 and 850 years. According to the most conservative estimates, construction work took at least 100 years. And two centuries later the temple was abandoned by people and buried under a layer of ash after the eruption of the volcano. Almost a thousand years, Borobudur was safely hidden under the jungles, until the British colonialists discovered it in 1814. From that time the epoch of Borobudur's return to people began. Almost immediately after the discovery, excavations and restoration work began in the complex, which almost became the cause of his final death. Only at the end of the 20th century was a full-scale restoration, during which all components of the complex found their place.

The Borobudur Temple - description

The place of erection of Borobudur unknown builders chose a natural hill and overlaid it with huge stone blocks. Outwardly, this temple ensemble has the appearance of a stepped pyramid with a base of 123 meters and a height of 32 meters. Each step or terrace symbolizes the stages through which the human soul passes in an effort to achieve nirvana.
