Catarrhal proctitis is an acute inflammatory process in the rectum, which appears isolated or as a complication in other diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. The causes of inflammation can be:
- violation of microflora in the intestine;
- improperly administered infectious disease therapy;
- presence of parasites, helminthic invasion;
- injury to the mucous membrane as a result of chronic constipation;
- diseases of the organs adjacent to the rectum (cystitis, hemorrhoids, etc.);
- frequent enemas;
- complications after irradiation of the pelvic girdle.
Symptoms of catarrhal proctitis
According to the flow clinic, the catarrhal spastic proctitis is divided into acute and chronic.
The following symptoms are typical for the acute form of the disease:
- burning and feeling of heaviness in the rectum;
- constipation accompanied by false urges;
- fever and accompanying chills;
- mucus, pus or blood clots in the stool.
In chronic proctitis, there are similar but less pronounced manifestations. The patient complains of poor health, insomnia and headaches.
Treatment of catarrhal proctitis
After a rectal examination and an endoscopic examination, the specialist chooses methods of treating the disease. As a rule, the doctor recommends rectal candles for catarrhal proctitis:
- Methyluracil ;
- Natalside;
- Proctosan;
- Ichthyol suppositories;
- suppositories with sea buckthorn oil.
Other ways to treat catarrhal proctitis are:
- taking antibiotics (Vancomycin, Metronidazole, Ceftriaxone);
- microclysters with kollargolom, solutions of infusions of chamomile or calendula;
- disinfecting baths with decoction of chamomile, solution of potassium permanganate;
- with the radiation form of the disease - hydrocortisone applications, Prednisolone.
The presence of a tumor requires surgical intervention. Of great importance in the treatment is a diet that provides fractional food and light meal intake.
