Celery is very rich in vitamins and nutrients, so growing a lot of juicy root crops over the summer and using them all next winter is a great idea. And we will tell you how to grow seedlings of root celery and the root itself in the plot.

Celery - how to grow from seeds?

Maturing root celery for quite a long time, the average period before harvesting is 120-200 days. Therefore, buy seeds of early varieties and be sure to plant them on seedlings in February or at least early in the spring.

Preparing the seeds is to soak them for a day or two in warm water, followed by germination on a damp cloth in a dark place. Do not forget to periodically pour water on the saucer with seeds, so that the fabric is always damp. As soon as the seeds get through, it's time to drop them into the seed containers.

Sow seeds can be from February 5 to March 15. A mixture of peat, humus, turf and mullein in a proportion of 6: 2: 1: 1 is suitable as a primer. You can also simply mix biohumus and river sand in equal parts.

Seeds are sown at a distance of 2 cm from each other into shallow lunettes, which are then sprinkled with earth. Covered with a film box put in a warm place for a week. When seedlings appear, they put it on a light window sill.

Watering should be carried out by sprinkling methods. When the first real leaves appear on the seedlings, you can cut it into separate cups.

Cultivation and care of celery

Those who already know how to grow root (radish) celery, remember that in the open ground seedlings can be planted only in the middle of May - it's not worth hurrying with this. Seedlings should already have a minimum of 5 leaflets.

It is important during planting celery not deepen its growth point and leave between plants of 30 cm. Then the roots will grow large and without additional roots - an ideal crop .
