Aquarium fish, like all living things, need oxygen. But sometimes the natural concentration of oxygen is not enough and the owners of aquariums should do the aeration of water in the aquarium.
Methods of aeration
Oxygen production for fish in the aquarium is carried out in two ways: natural and with the help of special compressors. The natural way of aeration is the plant and snail planting . Plants are able to produce oxygen and can meet the needs of fish in it. However, at night, the plants themselves absorb oxygen and in the aquariums at night there is often a shortage of oxygen. Snails also affect the oxygen content of the water and even the oxygen balance can be monitored. Some species of snails, with a shortage of lack of oxygen, creep onto the leaves of plants or on the walls of the aquarium, while under normal conditions they live on stones.
Artificial aerating is carried out in two ways:
- Air compressors . They feed air through the sprayer through the air tubes. The atomizer turns the air into the smallest bubbles, which are easier to distribute along the aquarium. Compressors are specifically designed to supply oxygen to the water column.
- Water pumps, filters, pumps . They perform the functions of internal filters, driving the liquid through the sponge and those that are equipped with a diffuser suck in air from the air tube. The air is mixed with water and the form of small bubbles is thrown into the aquarium.
To determine how much oxygen you need in an aquarium, you need to take into account its population, depth, water volume, temperature, light conditions, etc. If the aquarium is large and well planted, then self-sufficiency is possible with oxygen. However, modern compressors not only supply oxygen, but also promote the mixing of water strata and strengthening the soil.
Overabundance of oxygen in the aquarium
On the question whether oxygen is needed in the aquarium, the answer is unequivocal - it is needed. However, some people perceive the advice of water aeration specialists as a guide to action and begin to plant heavily
- change the water in small portions;
- correctly select the composition of fish;
- keep track of the number of plants;
- regulate the airflow coming from the compressor.
In this case, an ideal oxygen balance will be achieved and your fish will not suffer.
