Cleaning the pillows

Do you know what is the life of the feather pillow? A year, five, ten years? Most likely, you do not know. And how old are your pillows? We can argue that some landladies do not even know this, because they received their pillows as a legacy from their mother or even grandmother. It turns out that the shelf life of the pillow from the fluff and feather is only five years! After which, the pillow needs to either be changed to a new one, or continue to clean the pillow pill every year. But again, not all follow these rules. But if you are wondering whether it is possible to clean feather and down pillows at home, then our current material is exactly what you need.

Why clean pillows and blankets?

There are many reasons for this, we will mention only four, the most important in our opinion.

Well, firstly, both the blankets and pillows soak up the sweat secreted by our body during sleep. And unlike duvet covers and pillow cases, we do not get used to cleaning and washing them.

The second very important point is the possible presence of dust mites in the down pillows and blankets. And in a pillow that has not been cleaned for more than 5 years, they are almost certainly present. Dust mites, in turn, can cause various allergic reactions and skin problems.

Thirdly, when a person is sick, a lot of bacteria can get on the pillow (along with saliva, snot, etc.). And subsequently it is possible that these microbes will again and again enter your body from the pillow.

And finally, we mention the usual aging of the pillow. When it gets an unpleasant smell, it loses its lumps, becomes stiff and uncomfortable.

Cleaning the pillows at home

Cleaning feather pillows and blankets at home is a very troublesome business. To successfully carry out such a procedure, it is necessary to fulfill a number of conditions.

  1. It is impossible to wash the whole pillow in the washing machine. Firstly, you will not be able to wash that much, and secondly, all the fluff can get you down with one lump. Yes, and to dry normally a whole pillow in modern conditions is almost impossible.
  2. First, sew new naperniki for pillows. Choose a dense material so that the feather does not come out later.
  3. Prepare a bath with soapy water. The water should be warm, and the powder should not be regretted.
  4. After all preparations you can rip open the pillow, and in small batches drop the feather in the bath. It's better if you leave it there for three or four hours.
  5. You can catch fluff with a glass stopper. Then it needs to be rinsed under running water several times. And immediately wet pack in small bags (you can use one bag, but the pen will dry longer).
  6. We load the bags into the washing machine and turn on the spin.
  7. We hang out the bags to dry (it is better to choose a well-ventilated place). Do not forget to shake the pen several times a day.
  8. We fill new naperniki and sew up.

Note that this way you can clean only the feather of waterfowl (ducks, geese). Chicken feather due to such manipulations may begin to decompose.

Dry cleaning of feather pillows

If you do not have the desire or the opportunity to tinker with cleaning the pillows at home, you can always turn to specialists. Now the use of the device for cleaning cushions is widely used. Its advantages are that you do not need to spend a lot of time and effort on washing the pillows by hand. The new technology ensures that the pen will remain dry, and all contamination will be lost, which you can not be sure of by erasing the cushions yourself. In addition, the pillow cleaning machine disinfects fluff and destroys all bacteria contained in it.

Dry cleaning is suitable for any pen (even chicken), after such treatment it becomes only softer and airy, which will ensure a sound and healthy sleep.
