Day of Russia - the history of the holiday

The Day of Russia is a very young state holiday. It is official, that is, this day is declared a day off. However, what is the history of the Day of Russia?

On June 12 , 1990, the Declaration was adopted, which proclaimed the Russian Federation a sovereign and independent state. In 1994, it was decided to create a public holiday - the Day of Russia. It is worth noting that in many states there is Independence Day (remember July 4 in the US, for example). They celebrate it on a grand scale, collect all friends and relatives, prepare a festive turkey and a barbecue. Paradoxically, many Russians do not know how to celebrate this holiday and what is the history of the creation of the Day of Russia.

Many do not understand why it was necessary to declare Independence Day, because before 1990 Russia was not dependent on anyone. The Yeltsin government decided that Russia was dependent on the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (an interesting fact is that former Soviet countries note independence from Russia). Undoubtedly, before the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russia was a completely different state. The history of the occurrence is quite paradoxical, but still the Day of Russia can be rightly called the Birthday of the Russian Federation, because before that the country was called in another way - the RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic). An interesting fact is that on June 12 in many regions of Russia - the city day.

The history of the celebration of the Day of Russia is quite extensive, on June 12 in all constituent entities of the federation there are concerts, festive events, fireworks. For example, in 2014 Yalta was chosen as the main platform for celebrating the Day of Russia. This was due to the recent annexation of the Crimea, thus attracting tourists to Yalta. In Yalta, there was a great show on the beach, which was the beginning of the music contest "Five Stars". On the official website of the Day of Russia, you can trace the history of its celebration, because every year on June 12 in the country there were noisy events. The only exception was 1994 - the holiday was then called "The Day of the Declaration on the State Sovereignty of Russia". Until 2002, bright and memorable events did not pass. Only in 2002 it was renamed the "Day of Russia", and the festive events acquired a comprehensive character.

Events for the Day of Russia

In 2016, more than 100 festive events dedicated to the Day of Russia were held in the Russian capital - Moscow. Various theatrical and literary festivals, free cinema shows, sports events, concerts were held. Volunteers from the very morning handed out ribbons with Russian tricolor, people performed national anthems in parks, and in the evening grandiose fireworks took place. People could visit absolutely free of charge a concert on Red Square.

Over time, the population of Russia began to get used to a new and such incomprehensible holiday as the Day of Russia. Although the history of the creation of Russia Day seems strange to many, but someone does not know it at all (according to official polls, such people are the majority). People, in the first place, are attracted to weekends, during which you can go to the country, spend time with friends and relatives. More and more people visit city parks, where concerts and festivals are held, enjoy the weather and have fun. The holiday was also created in order to awaken patriotic feelings in Russians, it must be noted that this goal was achieved. Now the story of the Day of Russia is not so much important as the feeling of the greatness of the Russian Federation.
