Feast of Michael

November 21 marked a large Orthodox holiday of Michael, which is the main of all dedicated to the holy angels. Believers people are very honored this holiday and in common parlance they call it Mikhailov's day. The decision on the celebration was taken at the Local Council of Laodicea in the 4th century.

This church was established in the name of all the holy angels, chief among which is the archangel (elevated rank in comparison with simple angels), Michael, revered for defending the faith and fighting against heresy and evil. On this day, it is customary to praise the Heavenly forces and their leader, the Archangel Michael, with prayers, and ask them to protect us, strengthen and help us to pass the difficult path of life with dignity.

Mikhailov Day in November

In translation from the Hebrew name, Michael means "Who is like God." In the Holy Scripture, Archangel Michael is referred to as the "prince", "leader of the Lord's host" and is considered the main fighter against the devil and various lawlessness between people, therefore he is called "archistrategist", which means - the senior warrior, leader. He takes a very close part in the fate of the Church and is considered the patron of the warriors.

The date of Michael's holiday in November is not accidental. After March, considered the starting month from the moment of the creation of the world, November is the 9th month, in honor of the nine angelic ranks and the feast of St. Michael and all other angels is established.

The Feast of Michael the Archangel is not passing, this day is not observed fasting, Orthodox Christians are allowed to take any food. This holiday was always celebrated very cheerfully, guests were invited to the hut, a feast with pies , fresh honey was arranged. Soon after this holiday, strict posts came, so the celebration of Mikhailov's Day could last a week.
