Fighting the Colorado Beetle

Virtually every trucker had to meet the most terrible enemy of potatoes - the Colorado beetle. It is able to significantly reduce crop yields, and sometimes even completely destroy. It is not indifferent to the Colorado beetle and to other nightshade beetles - tomatoes and aubergines. Whether the uninvited guest becomes the full owner of your garden or not depends on you.

Effective control of the Colorado potato beetle is the simultaneous treatment of the entire area with a massive appearance of larvae. Otherwise, the beetle from the treated area will migrate to the neighboring one, and will return after the disintegration of the drug. Re-treatment is needed after about 30 days, but not later than a month before harvest.

Biological means of combating the Colorado potato beetle

Biopreparations "Fitoverm", "Bikol", "Bitoksibaktsillin", "Agravertin", "Colorado" are the most preferred in the fight against pests. They do not harm the environment, people, animals, and they allow you to get environmentally friendly products. Spraying should be carried out in clear weather, at a temperature not lower than 18 ° C.

Biological preparation, having got into the body of a beetle or larvae by contact or intestinal way, causes death. They stop eating and die for 3-5 days. The drug does not work on the eggs of the beetle, so it will have to be repeated.

Chemicals

There are many insecticides from the Colorado beetle, the most popular ones are Bancol, Aktara, Confidor, Korado, Regent, Sonnet. The instructions must specify the rules for using the drug, precautions, including recommendations in case of drug poisoning .

Process plants should be in windless weather in the early or evening hours. In the daytime, the drug will evaporate without reaching the target. Exceeding the concentration effect will not enhance, but will contribute to the accumulation of harmful substances in tubers and the environment.

The mechanical way to deal with the Colorado potato beetle

You can simply collect and press the beetles. However, it is not necessary to leave crushed insects near the site, this will contribute to the arrival of new individuals. Better collected beetles and leaves with eggs pour boiling water, and then throw away from the garden.

Folk ways to deal with the Colorado beetle

People have also experimentally developed relatively safe means of combating the beetle:

  1. A solution of birch tar (added to 10 liters of water 100 g of tar);
  2. Sol-soap solution (ash boils for 15 minutes, it is infused for 2 days and filtered, added to 10 liters of water and 50 grams of laundry soap).
