However, there is a problem similar to all types of tomatoes - the appearance of cracks on the surface of the fruit, which, of course, significantly spoils the appearance and taste, as well as the duration of storage . Therefore, we will find out the reasons why the tomatoes are cracked and how to prevent this phenomenon in your beds.

Why does the tomato fruit crack?

In general, the causes of the appearance of cracks in both ripening and already ripe tomatoes are non-infectious. This leads to caring for plants, in which mistakes were made or oversights were made. First, most often "blame" the abrupt changes in the conditions in which tomatoes are grown, in particular, the increase in soil moisture. More tomato is cracked in the greenhouse. In sunny weather, the land under the film coating is heated up sharply and dries up. And when we water it abundantly, tomatoes absorb too much water, and the delicate skin of the fruit simply does not withstand pressure and bursts. And the explanation of why tomatoes crack when ripening is simple enough: when on hot days the plants suffer from a lack of moisture, their fruits cease to grow, and the skin becomes thick. After watering, there is a sharp growth of tomatoes, from which on the rough skin and cracks appear. The same thing happens on the open ground: after droughty days, many summer residents hurry to their plots and begin to "pour" the rows with tomatoes, as a result of which the fruits crack. This also happens when weather conditions change, when after the heat comes a period of prolonged rains.

In addition, the reason why the tomatoes on the bushes are cracking is the genetic propensity of some varieties of agriculture to crack. First of all it concerns tomatoes with dense fruits of pink or yellow color. But the tomato of such varieties as "Diva", "Ostrich", "Moscow region", "Our Masha" marked resistance to the appearance of cracks.

What if the tomatoes crack?

You can assemble beautiful and delicious tomatoes if you follow the right conditions for their cultivation. First, it is important not to allow the soil to dry out. With steady sunny weather, regular watering is necessary every 3-4 days. And if it rained, water should be watered in 5-6 days. With prolonged rainy weather, watering should be postponed for another two days. If it so happened that you simply did not have the opportunity to water the beds on time, you do not need to drench tomatoes sharply. It is better to do a few watering, but extremely dosed. Secondly, it is equally important to properly organize the watering. Pour water directly under the plant, into the root zone. An excellent option would be to make small grooves along the rows between the bushes and then let the water out of the hose.

If you grow tomatoes in a greenhouse , try to adhere to a uniform moistening of the soil. This is achieved by systematic watering and frequent airing of the greenhouse block. In addition, it is necessary to maintain an approximately constant temperature in the greenhouse (which is impossible in natural conditions), so that the number of fruits with cracked skin will be minimal.
