One of these artificially created varieties of grapes is the grapes of Libya. Although this variety appeared just a few years ago, it already managed to win the hearts of many wine growers, thanks to its high characteristics.

Grapes Libya: description and characterization of the variety

  1. Grapes Livia refers to the table varieties of very early ripening. The maturation period of this grapes is only 100-110 days. When the branches are fully loaded, the whole crop usually ripens, with an overload of 70-80%.
  2. The variety Livia was obtained as a result of crossing two varieties of grapes: Arcadia and Flamingo. In the State Committee of Ukraine he was introduced only recently - in 2011. The author of this variety is the breeder V.V. Zagorulko.
  3. Grapes Libya is characterized by large and even very large clusters, shapeless or having a cylindrical-conical shape. The weight of one bunch can reach 900-1000 g, and its length is about 35 cm.
  4. Berries also differ in their large size (30x20 mm) and juicy fleshy pulp, which has a rich muscat taste. The shape of the berry is spherical, the color of the skin is pink. Each berry weighs 10 to 15 grams. The skin on the berries is soft and tender enough that it practically does not feel when eating. There are few stones in the grapes: each berry contains not more than 3 small sized bones. The aroma and taste of the pulp remains for 30 days after cutting.
  5. Grapes Livia has excellent food characteristics. The sugar content in berries is at the level of 18-23%, with an acidity level of 5-9 g / l.
  6. Grape bushes Libya powerful and strong, well stretched to the height. The first crop can be obtained 3 years after planting. The crown of the young shoot has a light green color, without pubescence. The first sheet is one-piece, and all the subsequent ones are five-lobed, medium-dissected. The matured one-year shoot is colored light brown.
  7. Another important characteristic of the grape variety of Libya is its frost resistance. This variety is easily able to withstand frosts down to -21 ° C.
  8. Grapes Livia responds well to properly conducted care and high doses of phosphate-potassium fertilizers.
  9. Grapes Libya, its shoots, leaves and berries are quite resistant to diseases. Its resistance to mildew and oidium is about 3.0-3.5 points. For better protection against diseases, it is necessary to periodically carry out preventive treatment of Libya grapes with fungicides.
  10. For planting grapes Libya is better to choose areas with fertile, light loamy soil. It is not superfluous to plant organic and mineral fertilizers before planting.
  11. Pruning Libya grapes is applied short, 2-6 kidneys, which helps to significantly increase its yield. Trimming grapes - one of the most important agrotechnical techniques and therefore it is especially important to produce it correctly. With a strong growth on well-fertilized soil on Libya grapes, there may be a drop in color. This indicates the irrational use of the vegetative force of the bush to develop fruit. In this situation, it is necessary to change the trim from a short (2-6 kidneys) to an average (by 7-10 kidneys) or even a long one (more than 15 kidneys). Like other cold-resistant varieties, Livia grapes are cut in the early spring, after the cessation of frost. You can even cut Libya's grapes even at zero temperature. Pruning pruner must be sharp, because stupid can damage the vine.
