History of interior styles

The history of interior design has thousands of years and originates in antiquity. Man began to decorate a dwelling premise for a long time. And in every era there were peculiarities of using different colors, forms of furniture and other elements of decor. Such established patterns and rules of interior design are called style. It is connected with the peculiarity of the era, because culture, traditions and historical realities leave their imprint on the design of the premises. Therefore, the history of interior styles is inseparably linked with the general course of development of mankind.


Interior in ancient times

The very first appeared antique style, which included the design of the premises in ancient Greece and Rome. His features are symmetry, light colors of walls and floors, ornaments and stucco, legs of furniture in the form of animal paws. Elements of the interior were made of marble, bronze, trimmed with gold and silver. Tapestries, mosaic floors and paths with a border are common.

In place of the antique in the 9th century, the Romance style came to Europe. Massive furniture with inlay, beds with canopies, large chests and heavy curtains are its main features.

Interiors of the Middle Ages

The history of the Gothic style dates back to the 12th century. Gothic style is characterized by narrow windows, dark colors, columns and carved ornaments. An important element of it was a mandatory fireplace. This style was cold and did not create coziness at all. And after a while the Renaissance era replaced him.

The history of the Baroque , Rococo and Empire style suggests that a person should live in comfort. People in the house began to surround themselves with elegant, beautiful things. Mirrors, chic chandeliers, gold finish, stucco molding, mosaic and crystal incrustation are the interior features of that time.

Modern interior design

With the development of technical progress, the leading direction in design has been the convenience and use of technical innovations. New materials, minimalism and pragmatism become features of such styles as modern, high-tech or cyberpunk. The history of the art deco style is interesting. It combines elements of Empire, antique art and oriental exotics.
