Hyperthermia in children: treatment

Treatment for fever is reduced to taking emergency measures to improve the baby's condition and prevent the development of complications.

With red hyperthermia, the following actions must be taken:

  1. Undress and put the patient in bed.
  2. Provide indoor access to fresh air, but not draft.
  3. Give an abundant drink.
  4. Sponge with a sponge soaked in water, alcohol or vinegar or apply a bandage on the forehead.
  5. At a temperature above 40.5 ° C, cool in a bath of water about 37 ° C.

If the fever does not subside, it is necessary to give an antipyretic drug (panadol, paracetamol, ibuprofen,). Temperatures below 38.5-39 ° C are not brought down, for babies this threshold is 38 ° C. If the fever lasts more than three days, you should consult your doctor.

To provide emergency care for white type hyperthermia:

  1. Call for an ambulance.
  2. Dress the baby and cover with a blanket to keep warm.
  3. Offer a hot drink.
  4. Give antipyretics together with spasmolytic to relieve spasm of blood vessels.

If the patient's temperature does not drop to 37.5 ° C, he will need hospitalization.
