The increase in pressure in the brain is as dangerous as cardiovascular hypertension. At the same time, intracranial hypertension affects, for the most part, young women aged 20 to 27 years. This pathology refers to the type of idiopathic diseases, in which precise mechanisms of development have not been clarified.
Causes of intracranial hypertension
There are 2 main types of the disease under consideration in accordance with the nature of the current:
- acute;
- chronic.
In the first case, intracranial hypertension is caused by external or internal factors that severely disrupt blood circulation in the brain tissues:
- stroke;
- abscess;
- craniocerebral trauma;
- shake.
The exact causes of the development of the chronic variety are unknown. Among the predisposing mechanisms are:
- hydrocephalus;
- thrombosis of the venous sinus in one of the large blood vessels of the brain, which is usually provoked by severe dehydration or infection;
- tumors (meningioma, glioma);
- anomalies in the development of the blood vessels of the brain;
- infectious lesions (encephalitis, meningitis).
Separately classified benign intracranial hypertension, which is also called a false brain tumor. This pathology is typical for young women (up to 25 years), usually with excessive body weight.
To date, the causes of the development of this disease are unknown, sometimes it is associated with such pathologies and conditions:
- autoimmune diseases;
- endocrine disorders;
- leukemia;
- pregnancy;
- taking certain medications, especially corticosteroids and antibiotics;
- polycythemia Vera;
- lupus;
- iron deficiency anemia ;
- renal failure in chronic form.
It is worth noting that a false brain tumor can also disappear suddenly, as it does.
Symptoms and signs of intracranial hypertension
The characteristic clinical manifestations of the described disease are the following:
- headache;
- vomiting with previous nausea;
- dizziness;
- convulsive seizures;
- decreased visual acuity;
- forced position of the head;
- impaired consciousness;
- increased systemic blood pressure;
- bradycardia;
- impairment of respiratory activity.
It is important to note that these symptoms are not always obvious, especially if intracranial hypertension occurs in chronic form. In this case, the signs of pathology are almost not noticeable.
Treatment of intracranial hypertension
First of all, the diagnosis of the underlying disease is carried out, which provoked an increase in pressure in the brain. Therapy is based on the complex application of the following drugs:
- loop and osmotic diuretics (Furosemide, Mannitol);
- corticosteroid hormones (dexamethasone) in the presence of a tumor;
- barbiturates (Thiopental);
- nootropics (Actovegin, Cavinton);
- non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for the management of pain syndrome.
If the conservative treatment is ineffective, in conjunction with manual and physiological therapy, a surgical operation (shunting) can be prescribed.
Treatment of intracranial hypertension with folk remedies
It is important to remember that no single drug of alternative medicine is an independent drug. They can be used only as an auxiliary therapy to alleviate the general condition.
