Lilac - planting and care

The end of spring and early summer without the flowering of odorous lilacs is difficult to imagine. These plants decorate and city squares, and courtyards of residential areas, and household plots. One of the reasons for this popularity is that planting and further care for the lilac complexities do not represent. However, knowing some of the subtleties of growing lilac, you can even longer admire this plant.

Fundamental rules

According to the rules, the planting of lilac is carried out in autumn. For this, choose places with bright sunlight. The soil must be fertile, moderately moist. From agrotechnical techniques when caring for lilacs, mulching and loosening of the soil, watering and pruning are used. As for feeding, they are optional if the soil is nutritious. Note that an overabundance of organic and nitrogen will reduce the number of flowers, although it will increase the green mass. In general, care for the lilac, as practice shows, is only necessary after planting young seedlings. An adult strong plant can develop normally without the intervention of the grower. Even pests and various diseases of the lilac are not terrible. Help will only be needed if a moth or bacterial necrosis is infected.

Features of landing

The lilac propagates both by seeds and by propagation (excretions, inoculations). The first way, that is, the reproduction of lilac seeds, is more labor-intensive. In addition, you will never know what sort of qualities your plant possesses, until it blossoms, because the mother's are not inherited. How to plant a lilac in autumn with seeds? Collect them in the spring, perform the scarification and pop into the pot. Seedlings will appear in 2-3 weeks.

If varietal qualities matter, they resort to the propagation of lilacs by cuttings during the flowering period. Prepare them in the morning, cutting off ten-centimetric layers. You can pre-soak the cuttings in warm water (no higher than 35 degrees). To increase the chances, the cuttings are temporarily planted in a greenhouse or other room with a greenhouse effect. For three months, the seedlings take root, grow stronger, and in the ground a young lilac transplant is carried out in the fall (in September).

There is another way - the budding of an awakening or sleeping kidney, but this process is extremely complex, so newcomers are unlikely to manage the matter to a successful conclusion.

As for the transplant of the lilac, it is needed if the bush is very much overgrown. Begin the process with a thorough examination of the roots. It is necessary to remove all parched, dead and damaged areas. Then the plant is planted in the prepared pit with the roots stretched in different directions. Make sure that the root neck rises 5-6 centimeters above the ground. It remains to water the lilacs and cover it with peat.

Trimming

For correct development and preservation of aesthetic appearance, lilacs should be cut in autumn (both shoots and shoots are removed, which are below the crown of the bush). If this is not enough, it is necessary to thin the bushes, removing those shoots that grow towards the center. As for pruning faded brushes, then it should be done! So you will ensure a bush of abundant flowering in the future. If you plan to propagate lilac seeds, then leave on the bush no more than two or three brushes. When your lilac turns into a strong adult plant, it will be necessary to cut off unproductive branches, the inflorescences on which have not been formed for several years. Thanks to this you will free the crown of the bush for the development and growth of new shoots of lilac.
