Meal in a hike

Properly organized food in a hike is one of the most important conditions for a successful event. Moreover, it is necessary to solve the problems of planning the ration and purchase of products for travel long before its beginning, and, certainly, not on the last day. And if in one- and even two-day hikes you can go with sandwiches, canned food and a thermos, then a long tour should be carefully prepared.

Rules for proper field feeding

The basic rules of rational field feeding are quite simple:

  1. Food on the trip should be safe. It would seem that this is not the most important point, but you only need to imagine how much the active rest will be ruined even by a slight malaise. So, you can not take perishable foodstuffs on a hike. These include dairy products (except cheese and condensed milk), sausage and confectionery products (except dry smoked sausage, chocolate, cookies), raw meat.
  2. The diet in the hike is calculated from the need of 3000-4000 calories per day, this is how much a person spends in the usual walk or bike ride (for extreme types of outdoor activities, the ration is calculated individually). In addition to the calories contained in the products, the balance of the diet should be taken into account: the optimal ratio of proteins, fats and carbohydrates is about 1: 1: 4. The menu must contain salt, sugar, tea, fruit and vegetables in fresh or dried form.
  3. It is doubtful that the most patient tourist will wait for dinner or dinner for one and a half to two hours, and therefore the menu should be planned from instant food products: various cereals, breakfast cereals with milk, soluble soups, boiled vegetables, pasta. Usually the most voluminous and high-calorie meal in the hike is in the evening, for dinner, tourists can be offered nutritious soups on broth, potatoes, meat.

Organization of purchase and transportation of products

Catering in the hike, namely the planning of the daily menu, the calculation of the required quantity, the purchase and packaging of products, usually rests with the team leader or an experienced tourist.

The most optimal way of transportation during hikes is as follows: food is completed according to the menu, and the reserves for each meal are packed separately, and evenly distributed among tourists.
