Namaji National Park


Namaji National Park is a large nature reserve located in the southwestern part of the Australian capital territory, 40 km from the capital city of Canberra. The national park covers an area of ​​1058 km 2 , which is about 46% of the entire Australian capital territory, is located on the border with the national park Kosciusko in the state of New South Wales.

History of Namagi

The time of the foundation of Namaji National Park is 1984. The park received this name from the local name of the Namaji mountains, translated from the language of the indigenous Ngunnaval tribe, located south-west of Canberra . The natives settled this area about 21,000 years ago. As evidenced by the traces of the history of the indigenous population, found on the ridge of primitive tools, fascinating rock art, animal bones and various ritual objects.

Since November 7, 2008, Namazhdi Park has been listed in the Australian National Heritage.

For tourists, routes have been developed along the landmarks of the reserve. One of them is the Trail of Settlers, which stretches 9 km through many epoch-making places associated with the history of the appearance of the first European colonizers - huts and yards, fences and pens for cattle.

One of the most interesting places is the house of Gadjenby, built of wood. This house is located in the valley of Gadjenby, it was built in 1927. House Gadzhenbi acquaints tourists with the way of life, the way of life of settlers, who lived in those times.

Travelers can go along the route of the gold diggers of Kiadra, through which, in 1860, the gold miners went to Gudzhenby. Or get acquainted with the route of "Heritage Orroral", where you can see the old station for tracking objects of space.
