Building of the Parliament of Malaysia

The building of the Parliament of Malaysia symbolizes the democratic system of the state. It was built in September 1962 on a hill in the picturesque Lake Garden, surrounded by fountains and other decorative elements. The idea of parliament building belongs to the first Malaysian Prime Minister Abdul Rahman.

Building Construction

The parliament building is a complex of two parts: the main three-story building and the 17-story tower of the annex. In the main building there are 2 conference rooms: Devan Rakyat (Parliament) and Devan Negara (Senate).

Devan Rakyat and Devan Negara have their colors: blue and red respectively, they have carpet in the halls. The premises are almost the same, but in Devan Negara there are stained glass windows with traditional Islamic motifs.

The roof has a unique design, it consists of 11 triangles. The main building and the tower are connected by 250-meter junctions.

Tower

More than 1 million bricks, 2,000 tons of steel, 54,000 tons of concrete, 200,000 cement bags and 300 tons of glass were used to build the tower. The project took 3.5 years. The building's design resembles a pineapple with decorative patterns. This design was chosen specifically to control the environment of light and heat inside.

Initially, the Tower housed offices of ministers and members of parliament. However, with the increase in the number of employees, here are located administrative offices and other premises:

  1. The main hall of the first floor is a banquet, designed for 500 people. There is also a small circular prayer room, which can accommodate up to 100 people, a royal suite, a library, a press room, a living room and a dining room.
  2. On the second floor is the office of the Prime Minister.
  3. On the third floor is the office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
  4. On the 14th floor you can find the office of the leader of the opposition.
  5. On the 17th floor there is an open space with a breathtaking panoramic view of Kuala Lumpur .

There are rumors that there is a secret tunnel leading from Parliament to Lake Gardens for emergency evacuation. However, its exact location is not disclosed.

Territory

The plot of land on which the parliament is built occupies 16.2 hectares and is located at a height of 61 m above sea level. Here are planted many different trees from Saudi Arabia, Mauritius and other places. In the mini-park live deer and exotic birds.

On the Parliament Square, a statue of Abdul Rahman was erected. No other prime minister was awarded such an honor.
