Noel-Kempff-Mercado National Park

In the heart of South America, surrounded by impenetrable thickets of jungles and mountains, is located the amazing country of Bolivia - one of the most beautiful and mysterious countries in the world. The natural wealth of this region is inexhaustible: there are more than 10 national parks alone. We will tell more about one of them.

More about the park

Noel-Kempff-Merkado National Park was founded on June 28, 1979 and named after the famous Bolivian doctor, who devoted his entire life to the study of local flora and fauna. Its area is just over 15,000 sq. M. km is one of the largest reserves in the entire Amazon. The value of the park is very high, so in 2000 it was even included in the UNESCO list of sites.

As for the weather, the climate of the park is warm, humid, tropical. "Dry season" lasts approximately from May to September, then the thermometer can drop to + 10 ° С. The average annual temperature is + 25 ° С.

Fauna and flora of Noel-Kempff-Mercado

Very rich and interesting local flora and fauna. The uniqueness and special significance of the park is that the wild nature has remained virtually untouched by man. Mostly there are only excursion groups of tourists and scientists engaged in studying the biological diversity of the reserve.

Noel-Kempff-Mercado has become home to many rare species of animals and birds: the river otter, the tapir, the battleship, the black caiman, etc. Amphibians play an important role in the park's ecosystem, including the yellow and green anaconda, as well as some exotic species of turtles. The meat of these animals is very much appreciated by both Indian tribes and in the black markets, although it is illegal to catch them, and even more so to kill them.

Of the interesting attractions of the Noel-Kempff-Merdado National Park, numerous waterfalls deserve special attention. The largest and most famous of them is Arkoiris , whose height is approximately 90 m. The name of the waterfall is given not by chance: from the Spanish language the word "Arkairis" is translated as "rainbow" - and, indeed, this fairy-tale phenomenon can be observed here quite often, especially in afternoon.

Useful information for tourists

The Noel-Kempff-Merkado National Park is located in the eastern part of the country, right on the border with Brazil. The nearest resort of the country - the city of Santa Cruz - about 600 km.
