In general, there are several subconscious goals that lead to negative consequences of criticism:

Types of criticism

In general, there are 2 types of criticism:

  1. Constructive criticism - is aimed at improving a certain action and situation. If you use this option, the result will be positive, everyone will make the right conclusions and improve their work or behavior. Correct criticism implies the use of feedback, that is, you get a truthful answer to the question posed. For example, you can ask your colleagues or the boss about what you need to do to improve your work. As a result, you will receive real comments and wishes, this is constructive criticism.
  2. Destructive or unreasonable criticism . In this case, a person hears not an evaluation or response to a particular action, but a kind of summing up, for example, "You can never do anything good", etc. Such criticism negatively affects self-esteem and behavior. Most often unreasonable criticism is used by parents, communicating with children.

Before giving a specific comment action or situation, you need to ask yourself a mental question: "What do you want to achieve in the end?". Maybe the goal is simply to offend a person or you still want to improve the situation. Consider that any choice you make will have an impact on the situation and life in general.

When choosing constructive criticism, use 3 important components:

  1. Tell the truth and express everything that does not suit you.
  2. Do everything possible to ensure that the relationship with the person did not deteriorate, and he calmly listened to the comments.
  3. To achieve the desired result, that is, to correct the situation
